In the 1830s when immigrants and pioneers were looking for a sense of community, property ownership, a place to raise their children, and good farmland, they settled in Alpharetta. The city prospered from its humble origins as a trade station, and the City of Alpharetta was founded on December 11, 1858, subsequently becoming the seat of government for Milton County. The Old Milton County History Museum recounts Alpharetta's history, from its beginnings as Cherokee Indian territory to its incredible accomplishment into one of the country's most lively high-tech towns.

Through the early 1980s, Alpharetta remained a small, primarily rural village, but it soon grew into one of the most opulent cities in the United States. As of today, Alpharetta has a population of 65,800 civilians, where 64.6% have a Bachelor's degree or more. Alpharetta offers everything, whether it's access to top talent, outstanding real estate, unrivalled quality of life, or being surrounded by world-class enterprises.

Alpharetta is governed by a mayor and six council members; the current mayor is Jim Gilvin. The Fulton County Elections Division administers elections every two years. It is considered the best small city to start a business, the best Atlanta suburb, 6th fastest-growing City, one of the top 25 best places to move as according to Forbes, and has 5 of GA's top 15 high schools.
