In the early 1980s, a group of Georgia Tech graduates purchased land and established 'Technology Park Johns Creek.' Many businesses relocated to the region, resulting in exponential expansion over the years to become the home of 200 businesses. A legislative effort was launched to incorporate the Johns Creek neighborhood, which was supported by residents of northeast Fulton County in a voter referendum on July 18, 2006. The first elected officials of the town were elected in November 2006 and on 1 December 2006, Johns Creek City was made official.

It is the 9th largest city in Georgia, even though it is the youngest! Johns Creek, located 25 miles northeast of Atlanta, is a dynamic and varied city that is quickly developing! It is close to other popular towns like Alpharetta and Roswell, with easy access to I-85 and Georgia 400. It is receiving a great deal of national attention and recognition. Since it is the home of so many businesses, people have moved here for job opportunities, or are just coming from another town for their jobs.

People are settling to Johns Creek mostly because of the great schools available, such as River Trail Middle and The North View High School, which was just ranked the best high school in Georgia by Newsweek Magazine. Northview provides more than the state average in terms of college and job preparedness.

Johns Creek has many boutiques, shopping centers on every corner. Recreation and parks offer a wide range of fun and leisure programs for individuals of all ages, skills, and backgrounds. It is also close to the Chattahoochee River, Lake Lanier, and the North Georgia mountains. It is more like a family-oriented city; hence it has a lot of festivals throughout the year like Johns Creek Art Festival, summer concerts, Easter bunny hunt, Founders Day parade, and much more! It also has a separate program for seniors only Newtown School's Park Place is the active adult center of Johns Creek that combines bridging and book discussions with yoga and art workshops. Park Place offers a range of fun, useful and fascinating programming activities.
