Buford, Georgia
The “Town of Buford” was established on August 24, 1872, by a legislative act. In 1896, the name was then changed to "City of Buford." As demonstrated by its quick expansion and early commitment to schools, the town was early gifted with intelligent, far-sighted individuals engaged in business and education. Buford was labeled the "city of numerous factories" early on. Moreover, it was known as “The New York of Gwinnett" in a news item published in the News-Herald on December 18, 1902, in honor of its industry and activity.
Buford is known for many things, especially the quality education it provides. For decades, students from all around the county and neighboring counties have flocked to Buford High School to earn the renowned diploma. Additionally, the ‘Mall of Georgia' is also located in Buford. It features more shopping and entertainment in one location than anywhere else in the Southeast, with over 2 million square feet of fun.
Buford was named after Algernon Sidney Buford, president of the Atlanta and Richmond Air-Line Railroad. The city is governed by a board of commissioners, city manager, city clerk, public utility director, and finance director. City municipal nonpartisan elections are held in odd years and are scheduled and performed in compliance with the ‘Georgia Election Code’ and the City of Buford Charter. For any city position, the candidate who receives a majority of the votes cast is elected.
Buford was placed third in CNN Money's annual "100 Best Places to Live and Start a Business" list in 2008. Bufford is recognized as the "Manufacturing Capital of the World", due to its extensive industry, including farming operations, leather goods, and the South’s only glue factory. A city with so much manufacturing activity means lots of waste disposal, leading to great pollution, harming the environment. In this situation, JunkMan Jon will be a helpful source. It provides junk removal and large appliance pickups in case a factory wants to get rid of such things, that are now of no use.
