Lawrenceville is the county seat and the second oldest city in Metro Atlanta, having been founded on December 15, 1821, three years after the establishment of Gwinnett County. Captain James Lawrence, the naval commander during the War of 1812, was honored with his name. Lawrenceville residents have always taken pleasure in building and shaping a robust, healthy community, dating back to the original hardy line of pioneers who lived off the land.
